Grapefruit is such a great energy chew flavour.
This recipe is super easy and uses chia seeds which are one of my favorite ingredients. Want to know why? Check out the video below!
To make these chews just take the following:
- 1/8 Cup Chia Seeds Soaked in 1/2 Cup Grapefruit Juice
- 50g Honey
- 1/2 Teaspoon Agar Powder
Add them all together into a small saucepan and heat them on medium to high heat. Let the mixture boil for 1-2 minutes while stirring and then take it off the heat. Pour the mix into a mould or like me use a silicon baking tray and then cut into cubes once set. Leave in the fridge for 1-2 hours or until the mix becomes solid. Cut into portions and your ready to go!
So why do I love chia so much?
Chia seeds contain a massive amount of nutrients compared to the amount of calories in them. They are high in fibre and protein. These little seeds are also great for hydration as they absorb many times their own weight in liquid.
They are great in energy chews but also energy bars & gels. One of my other favorite ways to use chia is in Chia Pudding. An awesome breakky or even dessert. Want to learn how to make Chia Pudding? Check out my video here.
So what are some of the main benefits of Chia?
- They are high in protein, fibre & antioxidants which may even help you lose weight
- They are a great vegan friendly source of Omega 3 Fatty Acids
- They contain calcium, phosphorus and magnesium which are great for bone health
- They also contain vitamins A, B, E, and D, as well as other key minerals
